Injustice Experience Questionnaire, Emotion Regulation Questionnaire, Aggression, Police officers

Aggressive display has been seen globally among individuals and the ‘Force’ is not an exemption. There has been a lot of aggressive display among police officers’ between a superior police officer and a junior police officerand prominently between them and the civilians. The latter has led to riots and violence withinthe society and has changed the popular slogan ‘police is your friend’ in the minds of people to ‘police are your enemies’.In a bid to curtail the decadence inflicted upon our society by this awful attitude, this study was conducted to examine perceivedinjustice and emotion regulation as predictors of aggression among police officers. The study engaged 78 police officers in Ala area command, Akure with 46 (50%) males and 32 (34.8%) females aged between 25 and 50 years old. Their mean age was 38.4% with a standard deviation of 6.1%. Participants were administered the Injustice Experience Questionnaire, Emotion Regulation Questionnaire and the Buss and Perry aggression questionnaire with good internal consistency across the scales with cronbach alpha of .76,.64 and .83 respectively. Findings showed no significant difference in score of aggression among participants with high or low perceived injustice(t (75) = -1.14, p>.05). Also, the outcome showed a significant relationship between perceived injustice and emotion regulation(r = .29, p<.01).Therefore, the study concludes injustice experience among the police officers as not accountable for aggression, while police officers scoring high on perceived injustice will significantly relate to an increase in score in emotion regulation.
